Classic British design

This beautiful nursery is inspired by a classic wallpaper by Barnaby Gates, with imagery of quintessential British heraldry. The result is a room which looks simple, effortlessly elegant and chic.

Classic design is at the heart of this chic little scheme for a quintessentially British styled nursery.  Gender neutral, this room feels fresh, relaxing and welcoming - who wouldn’t want to spend time in here?  Feeling quietly luxurious, it is layered with texture and a light touch, pared back but elegant. It contains an eclectic mix of nursery essentials teamed with grown up glamour and can be easily personalised to suit you baby, whether a boy or girl.

Heavenly heraldic wallpaper

We’ve been using lions to decorate coats of arms and just about anything regal for about 800 years and their appeal never wanes. Barnaby Gates created this heavenly design, Heraldic Lion wallpaper, with a nod to our chivalric past. With a hand-stamped finish, this textural motif features playful lions with a shield and wreath made from oak leaves. With a gentle colour palette of white on a soft warm stone coloured background, this wallpaper will imbue a refined, elegance to a new nursery or child’s bedroom providing a neutral backdrop for layering lighting, artworks and furnishing accessories.

Lovable lighting

I have to admit a weakness for beautiful lighting, and I firmly believe in layering light in a room.  Overhead lighting for immediate illumination is only the stating point. Floor lamps will add shine to a dark corner while table lights provide task lighting for when needed but also supplementary lighting to create a relaxing environment. Wall lights will bathe a room with a soft glow (particularly if they are on a separate circuit). The Hatton 3 Wall light by Original BTC, will add a gentle warmth to your child’s room. Multi faceted and intricately made from fine bone china, when lit the translucent shade provides an exquisite, warm light. Exuding a classic 1930’s style, it also looks incredibly dynamic in a modern room setting (try mixing it with crisp geometric pattern and it takes on a whole new vibe).

For a touch of aaah, we’ve included a Miffy light in the scheme. Adding a classic childrens light defines whom the room belongs to - and anyway, who can resist the cute little bunny?  But this little bunny is a bit more grown up - this is the XL version.  Sitting at 80cm tall, it’s more of a floor lamp but will still impart a gentle glow if your little one needs lighting during the night time.

Fab furnishings

Our gorgeous Belle Sleigh Cot with it’s classical styling, extols exquisite, handmade luxury and is a statement piece of design. Built by master craftsmen, it’s graceful curves are accentuated with a soft white organic painted finish.  Generously proportioned, with adjustable mattress positions, this cot bed will provide your precious little bundle with a safe and stylish place to sleep from birth, transforming into a toddler bed, and ultimately into a refined day bed.

You can never have too much storage in a room.  Small people tend to need a lot of kit, and being able to store it neatly away is a important as being able to access it the moment it is needed. And multi-tasking items are even better. When buying furniture, I always choose timeless pieces that will grow with a child or that can be accessorised.  The Moderno Dresser is a perfect example - it can safely house a changing table on top with spacious drawers to hold tiny clothes and changing accessories, look sensational in an elegant teenagers bedroom, and would happily sit in mum and dad’s room too.

Softness underfoot is essential in a baby’s bedroom. Whether your preference is for floorboards or fitted carpet, you can’t beat a statement rug to add definition to a room and tie a scheme together whilst providing a snuggly spot for tiny toes. The Eberson Slate Rug by Designers Guild has a stunning ombre effect that shimmers with a luxurious, lustrous sheen. Liquid tones of warm gold blend with deep slate on this iridescent rug. It’s a statement design.

... and finally

The finishing touches.  Personalising the room to create a wonderfully warm haven for your little baby (and you too). Our Dandelion Fields Cushion looks wonderful in this scheme and can be popped on the floor to prop up a little bottom or add extra comfort in a chair at feeding time.

And don’t forget a mobile over the cot.  They add a dynamic finishing touch to a nursery whilst stimulating your childs senses.  How divine is the Swan and Feathers mobile?  An elegant white swan with a gold tipped crown and froth of glitter dotted tulle is surrounded by five golden dipped feathers. Suspended from a wire ring bedecked with twists of ribbon and tulle, just watch as your baby’s gaze follows the gentle motion of the swan and twinkling of gold glitter. Or, for a witty twist to complete the room, how about the Mr. Moustache mobile?  A black bowler hat and a ‘bristle’ of moustaches in shiny gold will twist and turn and glint in the slightest breeze.  Both are guaranteed to add the final sprinkling of magic to any room.
